Kontrabasharpa med dubbellek
Kontrabasharpa med dubbellek
One of my nyckelharpas is a kontrabasharpa med dubbellek (roughly contrabass keyed fiddle with double key system). The keys shorten not only the melody string but also one of the bass drones and a second melody ”mixtura” string.
This type of the nyckelharpa emerged during the middle of the 19th century as musicians were modernising their old contrabass keyed fiddles which were the most common type during the 18th century. By muting the mixtura string (a semi melody string giving simple chords together with the main melody string) I can make this nyckelharpa sound like the 18th century contrabass keyed fiddle it once was.
This is the sound of my contrabass keyed fiddle with double key system.
